Bucket Handle Meniscal Tears
Physician:
Dr. David Oster
Description:
The meniscus is a cartilage disc in the knee. Most tears are complex and have multiple tears,
however occasionally the meniscus tear can be a single tear and extend from the front to the back.
These types of tears can pivot around the fixation points and flip into the center of the knee.
When this occurs it causes the knee to lock up and not fully straighten. It also causes significant
pain until the piece moves back into position. This type of tear requires surgery and either removing
the piece or stitching it back into position to heal.
