Total Knee Arthroplasty

Total knee arthroplasty otherwise known as knee replacement surgery, is a procedure designed to treat endstage arthritis of the knee. Severe knee arthritis can incapacitate patients to the point of requiring a cane or even a wheelchair. Total knee replacement is designed to replace the arthritic joint with a combination of metal and plastic. This is truly one of the most reliable procedures available in Orthopedics. Usually, more conservative measures are tried when treating knee arthritis, but, if these fail, then, knee replacement may be beneficial. There are many types of knee replacements available and, with new advances in computer-assisted surgery and minimally-invasive surgery, the recovery, rehabilitation, and placement of the components has all been improved.
