Total Ankle Replacement

Ankle arthritis can be a debilitating disease which can have significant impact on a patient’s lifestyle. Ankle arthritis can result from previous traumatic incidents, a systemic process, or overuse phenomenon. Historically, ankle arthritis has been treated with ankle fusions. All ankle fusions have been reliable for relieving arthritic-type pain, but, fusions can cause excessive stress on adjacent joints. Total ankle replacement is now available to treat the patient with severe ankle arthritis and, at the same time, preserve motion. Ankle replacement is not for everyone, but, it does work extremely well in carefully selected patients. Dr. Resig has specialty training in foot and ankle surgery and has been trained to perform this complex procedure.
