Total Hip Replacement Surgery

Many patients are seen in our practice with loss of mobility in the area of the hip joint, complaints of pain in the groin region with radiation down into the thigh location secondary to osteoarthritis of the hip joint, sometimes, secondary to aging and, sometimes, secondary to previous injury. This abnormality frequently responds to efforts of conservative management with anti-inflammatory medications and corticosteroid injections. When these types of treatments are unsuccessful, then, consideration for total hip replacement or arthroplasty is carried forward. Total hip replacement is an extremely common and successful operation consisting of removal of the ball part of the hip joint and replacement with an artificial material made of ceramic-type bearing surface or use of a metallic ball and plastic socket construct. This operation is now carried out through smaller incisions with faster recovery time and extremely high success rate. Further information regarding this procedure can be obtained upon examination by a physician.
