Derek R. Johnson, M.D.
Specializing in Total Joint Replacement, Sports Medicine, Fractures and General Orthopedics
Dr. Johnson joined Denver-Vail Orthopedics, P.C. in 2009 and is board certified through the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He specializes in total joint replacement, sports medicine, and general orthopedics with a special interest in arthritis surgery. In addition he has an interest in upper and lower extremity trauma.
Dr. Johnson earned his undergraduate degree at Central Michigan University, graduating with honors, and earned his Medical Degree from Michigan State University, graduating with the highest possible distinction of outstanding. He completed his internship, as well as his residency at Grand Rapids Medical Education and Research Center. After completing his residency, he pursued fellowship training at Rocky Mountain Total Joint Replacement Fellowship.
Patient education is intrinsic to Dr. Johnson’s practice and he is committed to delivering outstanding patient care. His compassion, dedication, knowledge, and ability to explain each phase of injury and recovery are what make Dr. Johnson extraordinary. He believes in evidence based medicine and a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment and recovery of each patient. Dr. Johnson is active in clinical research and has numerous presentations and publications to his credit.
When Dr. Johnson is not practicing medicine he enjoys outdoor activities,
sports, and spending time with his wife and three children.
